What’s Going on?

What started in 1976 as a small idea by the Monroe County Agricultural Society has blossomed into one of the most impressive pulling contests in the nation. That first year drew more than 15,000 fans, and the prize money was $17,000. Nowadays, around 60,000 fans from all over the nation attend the event, and there’s a purse totaling $200,000.

Where it once had only a few classes, the pull now extends to 27 competitive classes over five sessions of high-powered action in just three days. It was the first truck and tractor pull televised live on national television, a reflection of that reputation and prestige. Off the track, the event gives businesses within a 30-mile radius more than $15 million of economic benefit, playing a vital role in supporting the Tomah community.

Top Things to Do

Before the engines roar to life, two powerful traditions mark the tone for the weekend: the Salute to the Military and the Salute to the American Farmer.

The Salute to the Military Motorcycle Parade is a tribute to both past and present service members. Patriotic veterans and local riders take part in a moving tribute that also features the unveiling of the American flag with flags from each U.S. service branch, as well as a homage to POW/MIA. There is a 21-gun salute at the conclusion.

On Saturday, the Salute to the American Farmer honors local farmers and the farming community. As the crowd gathers before the pull begins, the moment serves as a reminder of the deep agricultural roots that make this event possible.

Family Friendly

The tractor pull feels less like a competition and more like a giant family reunion. Grandparents, parents, and kids gather side by side, passing down their love of the roaring engines from one generation to the next. The pull makes it easy to bring the family with free entry to kids 7 and under.

Families will love one of the pull’s more unique features: the Kidz Klub. Young fans can greet drivers, collect autographs, and pick up free memorabilia. Each year, over 200 children and their families participate in this special day.

Visitors can also explore a wide variety of vendors throughout the grounds. From local food stands serving regional favorites to demonstration booths, information exhibits, arts and crafts vendors, and flea market sellers with unique collectibles, there’s plenty to discover between sessions.
